a Viva for a master’s study has been held for the student Howra Alaa Hassan

On Tuesday, March 29, 2022, within the scientific activities of Microbiology department at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine/ University of Kufa, , a Viva for a master’s study has been held for the student Howra Alaa Hassan. The study was tagged (Assessment of immunity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa associated with wound infection in albino rats).
This study is aimed to:
1) Making an excision wound in rats under anesthesia.
2) Inoculation of the wound area with aeruginosa bacteria
3) Blood samples were collected at (24, 48, 72) hours to measure the levels of complement C5a and the pro-inflammatory cytokines IL-1 and IL-22 using ELISA technology.
4) Skin biopsy was taken (24, 48, 72) hours and used for histological examination.
It was found that C5a was significantly elevated in the affected group compared to the other animal groups. While the level of cytokine (IL-1) was significantly elevated at all times (24, 48, 72) hours, which was observed in all studied groups. A significantly elevated level of (0.77 ± 0.08) IL-22 pg/ml was recorded within 24 hours in the injury group and then decreased after 72 hours.
On histological examination no signs of inflammation were observed in the dermis at 24 hours after the induced infection. Necrosis of fibrous tissue was observed in the lower dermis layer after 48 hours, and inflammatory cells infiltration were also observed in the affected areas. While 72 hours after injury, dermal fibroblast necrosis appears in spaces filled with infiltrating of inflammatory cells, which appear in histopathological sections.
The committee recommended that the student be awarded a master’s degree with a grade of “excellent”.
